Fruits and Veggies You Need to Eat for this Cold Season

Christmas is coming so fast and one of the great things to do is to prepare our body for cold season. One of the best things we can do in preparing our body is by eating delicious fruits and veggies. The winter squash family is the most well-known for winter but did you know that there are also lot of veggies and fruits that can really help us too when it comes to cold season? Always remember to keep your meals healthy, nutritious but also delicious. And to help you on that matter, here are some veggies and fruits that essential to your body this cold / winter season.

Sweet potatoes
Sweet potatoes are rich in Vitamin B6, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, iron and magnesium. Vitamin D and iron are important nutrients when it comes to strengthen our immune system. On the other hand, magnesium serves as anti-stress minerals that can help us relax during this busy holiday time.

Persimmons
Persimmon is a great source of vitamin C and antioxidants that is why this fruit can help us control diabetes and at the same time avoid heart disease. You can enjoy this sweet fruit by just eating raw or you can put this to salads and even in some baked foods. This persimmon has a mushy texture and often times related to plums. Although it is a bit challenging in finding this to all supermarkets, try your local farmer’s market instead.

Brussels sprouts
When it comes to Vitamin A, Vitamin C, potassium and calcium the best veggie is none other than Brussels sprouts. Brussels sprouts are like Barbie-sized cabbages. It is delicious when stir fry, roasted or even steamed. Whatever cook you want with Brussels sprouts, make sure not to overcook them because it will lose some of its Vitamin C power and at the same time may smell “not-that-great”. This veggie is also rich in fiber which is effective in lowering our cholesterol and at the same time fill up us faster.

Cabbage
Phosphorous, magnesium calcium, Vitamin C and Vitamin B is what the cabbage can offer to us. These nutrients are also best known as anti-inflammatory that great solution for reducing swelling, ease headache, and soothing ulcers. You can serve cabbage as raw ingredient in salads or cooking your favorite soup. Macaroni soup is my favorite soup and of course it will never be complete without cabbage!

Guava
Lycopene is an antioxidant helps us fight prostate cancer and heart disease. It also contains more potassium than banana and at the same time guava is a good source of fiber. This fruit is sweet and even sweeter when you eat into the center. Based on my observation, guava is not always available in supermarkets and I’m thankful that my beloved auntie has a guava tree in their backyard where I can just ask for it anytime.
